Job Overview

The Cook prepares and serves nutritious meals for clients and supports the smooth, efficient operation of the dining facility.

Essential Functions
  • Follow USDA regulations, state and local health department requirements, and OSHA standards.
  • Maintain clean, sanitized, and orderly food preparation areas and equipment.
  • Prepare hot and cold foods—including broiling, baking, frying, and roasting—according to established recipes.
  • Prepare ingredients and workstation for each shift.
  • Exercise the use of cost efficiency with all food and non-food supplies.
  • Serve meals to clients in a fast‑paced environment with professionalism and warmth.
  • Store food properly and safely.
  • Use food and non‑food supplies efficiently and responsibly.
  • Contribute to a positive, team‑oriented work environment.
  • Communicate with the Manager regarding special events, daily operations, and needs.
  • Safely operate commercial and non‑commercial kitchen equipment after training.
  • Use industrial cleaning products and follow proper MSDS procedures.
  • Demonstrate working knowledge of kitchen equipment used in daily operations.
  • Maintain a positive attitude and strong working relationships with fellow staff.
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures. 
  • Perform all other duties necessary for the proper functioning of the Center.

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in a commercial kitchen and dining facility with exposure to heat, odors, and noise. 

Physical Demands

  • The role requires regular standing, walking, lifting, reaching, and handling of kitchen tools and food items. Employees must be able to lift heavy objects and work safely in a busy kitchen environment. 
  • Bend, lift, kneel, and handle items weighing at least 30 pounds; load prepared food into ovens using racks.
  • Stand for extended periods (up to four hours).

Position Type / Expected Hours

Workdays are Monday through Sunday, with a rotating weekly schedule set by the Manager. Some flexibility may be required to support program needs.

Required Education and Experience
High school diploma or GED and 1-3 years of commercial cooking experience.

Current ServSafe Certification is a plus. If not certified ServSafe training will be offered to the successful candidate after hiring to achieve certification.

A valid driver’s license is required.
